Wharton Operations, Information and Decisions Department

Position Overview

The Wharton Operations, Information and Decisions Department of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the conceptualization, design, and empirical study of digital twins of business processes. The scholar will collaborate closely with Lynn Wu, associate professor of Operations, Information and Decisions, to develop a rigorous understanding of how real-world organizational processes can be digitally represented, simulated, and analyzed using modern data, AI, and process modeling techniques.

The project sits at the intersection of operations management, information systems, artificial intelligence, and organizational economics, with applications to domains such as healthcare, services, manufacturing, and knowledge work.

The position is expected to start August 1, 2026. The initial appointment is one year with a possible extension for a second year based on satisfactory performance. A competitive salary, including benefits, will be provided.

This is a full-time appointment and will be located on the University’s campus in Philadelphia, PA. The Postdoctoral Researcher position is open to U.S. and non-U.S. Citizens.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Applicants must have a PhD. from an accredited institution, in Information Systems, Computer Science, Operations Management, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong interest in business processes, AI-enabled systems, or digital transformation
  • Outstanding capacity for research, as well as excellent communication skills
